Gazetteer I (English)

Gazetteer I (in English) by Sir James George Scott. Tai-Shan place names, above the level of the village (ban, man, wan) have the prefix Muang (Möng, Meng) or Keng (Ken, Chieng, Jing). These pages of the Gazetteer list the names and locations of Keng and a brief description of the people, their livelihoods and the local environment. The spread of these place names are a key to the geographic spread of the Tai and the environmental niches they have selected as part of their settlement patterns as they migrated out of their homeland in the border areas between Guangxi and northwestern Vietnam.
